India's junior hockey team is on fire! They've stormed into the quarter-finals of the Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2025 after an incredible performance, leaving Switzerland in their wake with a resounding 5-0 victory. This dominant display marks their continued unbeaten streak in the tournament. But how did they achieve such a commanding lead?
Their final Pool B match, held at the Madurai International Hockey Stadium on Tuesday, showcased India's prowess. Manmeet Singh was the star of the show, celebrating his birthday with a brace, scoring in the 2nd and 11th minutes. Sharda Nand Tiwari also bagged two goals, in the 13th and 54th minutes, while Arsheep Singh added another in the 28th minute.
This victory not only secured their place in the quarter-finals but also crowned them the Pool B champions, earning a perfect nine points from their three matches. Their previous matches saw them crush Chile 7-0 and Oman 17-0, a testament to their offensive strength. And the most impressive part? They haven't conceded a single goal throughout the tournament!
The match was a goal-fest from the start. Manmeet Singh's early goal set the tone, followed by his second goal just minutes later. Sharda Nand Tiwari then converted a penalty corner, making it 3-0 in the first quarter. Arshdeep Singh, who had a hat-trick in the previous match, continued his scoring streak. Goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh also played a crucial role, making some spectacular saves to deny Switzerland any chance of a comeback.
India's performance was nothing short of clinical, maintaining their momentum throughout the game. Sharda Nand Tiwari, awarded Player of the Match, sealed the victory with his second goal.
Now, here's the exciting part: India will face Belgium in the quarter-finals in Chennai on Friday.
India has a rich history in the Junior Hockey World Cup, having won the title twice, with their last victory in 2016 on home soil in Lucknow.
