West Tipperary's Call for More Gardaí Resources: A Concerned Representative's Perspective
The call for enhanced security in West Tipperary has been amplified by the disappointment of local representative Cllr. John O'Heney. In a recent statement, O'Heney expressed his frustration over the inadequate allocation of Probationary Gardaí to the region, highlighting a stark disparity in resources.
According to O'Heney, the entire County of Tipperary received only one additional Garda, a stark contrast to the dire need for more personnel in both West and North Tipperary. This allocation, he argues, fails to address the critical security concerns of the area.
The representative's concern extends to the fact that only two Gardaí have been appointed to the Clare/Tipperary Division, with one stationed in Ennis and the other in Clonmel. This distribution, he believes, does not adequately cover the entire county, especially the western and northern regions.
In response to this situation, Cllr. O'Heney plans to take action by writing to Garda Management and Oireachtas Members, urging them to reconsider future allocations to ensure that County Tipperary receives the necessary support. He emphasizes the importance of bolstering the existing excellent Gardaí in the area to enhance their effectiveness and ensure the safety of the community.
This issue underscores the ongoing debate about resource allocation in law enforcement and the challenges faced by rural communities in maintaining adequate security. O'Heney's advocacy highlights the need for a more comprehensive approach to addressing these concerns, inviting further discussion and potential solutions from the broader community.
